<dab> Hi, I’m David. I’m a software engineer in the Seattle area. I started as an intern at Microsoft in 2013 and went full-time in 2014. Since then I’ve worked across systems code, client services, and billing.
Work
- Calendly: Senior full stack engineer on Monetization, working on billing infrastructure. I spent 14 months moving ~800K subscribers to Stripe, covering subscriptions, invoicing, tax, PayPal, and in-app purchases. I maintain the usage metering service and built the finance data reconciliation that checks Stripe and Apple App Store data against our internal billing records. I was interim lead for the team for almost a year.
- Polly: Worked on an LLM API framework.
- Apple: Siri, handling requests across devices. Wrote mostly Swift and Go.
- Microsoft: SQL Server and Windows networking.
Things I’m building
I run a small studio, dab Media, on the side:
- KOmpare: Mobile-first tools for trading card vendors.
- KOllectibles: A Pokémon collection tracker.
- Puzzletorium: A catalog of small puzzle games, built in Godot.
- dabberz: A platform for running LLM-driven development in parallel, isolated environments.
What I work in
TypeScript/Node, Ruby on Rails, Go, Swift, C#/.NET, C++. Stripe and billing systems. Linux, Docker, and a self-hosted home lab that’s grown past what’s reasonable.
History
I got my start at 10 years old, dragging around UI components in Visual Basic and making a message box appear on click. From there I learned HTML and CSS, then JavaScript and PHP. I found IRC and immediately wanted my own bot, so I wrote one from scratch in PHP. That got me into networking and protocols. I’ve written chat clients, chat bots (mostly unfinished), games, webhosting panels, CMSs from scratch, esports sites, admin panels, SQL Server contributions, and operating system SDKs.
In college I learned to write code properly: tests, design docs, UML.
These days I’m mostly into gaming, networking, and building with LLMs.
